A friend in southern Thailand sent us these photos of the cleanup operation after Mt. Merapi erupted. Some of the photos I've seen show cars, fenceposts, homes all covered with ash several inches deep, looking like aftermath of a snowstorm. The destruction has been devastating to the residents, their livestock and their livelihood.
