2010 American Folk Music Festival

Jim and I went to this 3-day event on Saturday, August 28. The weather was perfect – sunny and breezy, the food delicious – everything from crabcakes to nan to quesadillas, the music was amazing – although why it is called the “American” festival, I’m clueless.

We heard Celtic music from Cape Breton, Puerto Rican music from Viento de Agua, Iraqui from Rahim AlHaj, African from Kenge Kenge, Cajun from the Pine Leaf Boys, Korean from Noreum Machi, New Orleans Jazz from Dr. Michael White Quartet, Maine fiddling and traditional music from The Old Grey Goose, and much more. (I even put my knee to the test and danced to Cajun music!) I bought some earrings and, when they wouldn’t take plastic, gave me a SASE to mail a check when I got home. (He asked me to take off my sunglasses, look him in the eye and tell him my first name only. Pretty cool.)

Here are some photos of the performers and the crowd.
